The term 'NIMBY' indicates a resident who attempts to protect a space located near their home or limit it's use by others. In particular, it refers to people who use tricks to block or hinder developments such as new roads, airstrips, mining activities or housing projects. They will exagerate the impact that the new develpment will have on their lives, build barracades, damage construction equipment or even smuggle wildlife protected by law into the afected area. NIMBYs are considered selfish people and as such they are treated with contempt.
