Marmite /
Marmite is a dark, sticky, savoury food spread. It is very salty so it is usually eaten by spreading it very thinly on buttered toast, crumpets or in sandwiches. It can also be used like soy sauce to add flavour to meat and cheese dishes. It can also be found as a flavouring ingredient in some other food products such as crisps and peanut butter.
Marmite was first produced in 1902. It is made in a factory in Burton-on-Trent, a town in the middle of England which is also famous for brewing beer. It has been produced continuously in this factory since that time. Although the process of producing a yeast extract is well known, the actual recipe for manufacturing Marmite is a trade secret.

In English, the terms “Marmite effect” and “Marmite reaction” are sometimes used to describe something that provokes controversy.
